The National Council of La Raza (NCLR), a national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the U.S., will draw some of the nation's foremost business and community leaders, government officials, and entertainers to participate in the NCLR Annual Conference July 16-19 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.

Organizers expect more than 23,000 attendees at what they term the largest national Hispanic event of the year.

On Saturday, NCLR will kick off a weekend of family fun with the NCLR Diabetes Dash, the first event of the Conference. The 5K race, which aims to strengthen public awareness of diabetes risk, is open to all who want to run or stroll across the finish line. Dora the Explorer, Nickelodeon's beloved animated TV character, will join NCLR President and CEO Janet Murguia in cheering on the participants.

Among the guests for the Conference are U.S. House of Representatives Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Philadelphia Mayor John Street, President and CEO of the National Urban League Marc Morial, and NCLR's President and CEO Janet Murguia, President of Dorado Entertainment Inc. Maria Perez-Brown, Anna Escobedo Cabral, U.S. Treasurer; Sonia Manzano, Sesame Street's “Maria”; Lupe Ontiveros, famous TV and movie actress; Maria Elena Salinas, Univision Anchor; U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY), and Puerto Rico Governor Aníbal Acevedo-Vilá, among many others.
