Los Angeles elected mayor Antonio Villarraigosa, paid a visit to the Senate Democrat leader Harry Reid who highlighted the importance of his visit and committed his support to the Latino Mayor in all his working plans.
The mayor used the meeting to commit Senator Reid to help him in his quest for funds to finance public transportation and his new plan to build roads in the city.
Senator Reid spoke persons emphasized the importance of the visit and expressed that the Democratic Party recognizes him as an relevant Hispanic leader considering that Los Angeles, with a great concentration of Hispanic population, had no elected a Latino mayor since 1872.
“Senator Reid has the Hispanic community and its leaders in high regards”, said Fabiola Rodríguez-Ciampoli, spoken person of the Democratic committee, therefore the Senate is ready to act should an initiative to help Hispanics results”.
The Hispanic community is of such importance to the Senator that he has a large team dedicated full time to act in favor of the issues related to the Hispanics, said the spoken person, who added that one of the priorities of Senator Reid is to increase his venues of communications with the community and its leaders.
In this sense, the Senator has planned other meetings with Latin groups, scheduled for August which will take place in Nevada, his home state, where he will continue strengthening the relationship among the Democratic party and the Hispanic community.
This is the second time that Senator Reid meets with Mr. Villarraigosa. They personally met after the mayor's victory a month ago, which was a historic event since he is the first Hispanic Los Angeles mayor in more than a 100 years. |
