A group of DC Area Salvadoran community leaders joined officials from the El Salvador General Consulate, on Wednesday, July 27, to assist in the organization of the mass to honor Divino Salvador del Mundo, which will take place on August 6 in DC.
The organizers are part of the Comité Católico del Salvador del Mundo which is made up of members from the different Parishes in DC and Northern Virginia .
The celebration, held each August, has as its tradition to raise funds to bring a bishop from El Salvador to celebrate the liturgic act, which will be conducted by Monsignor Francios González, auxiliary bishop at the Washington DC Archdioceses.
The leaders said their goal this year is to raise $5,000 to cover the local expenses and to send the remaining money to a school in the San Francisco area in San Salvador . This technological school was created to assist young people who have walked away from the gangs.
